PPE

We can define PPE as anything that you wear in order to protect people from the spread of various infections. Some examples of PPE are gowns, masks, shoe covers, and gloves. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increased demand and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as people and businesses go about their daily activities.

And it has never been more crucial to protect the public and dispose of PPE equipment that could be ineffective, such as masks, gloves and face shields. At Shred Connect, we can assist and help your business with the timely disposal of personal protective equipment.

Did you know that even beyond the health pandemic, people may continue wearing PPE in order to protect themselves as well as other people from COVID-19 and other illnesses? The public relies on PPE manufacturers to provide top-quality standards in protection against virus and other communicable diseases.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) regulates PPE. And the NIOSH is managed under the CDC. Keep in mind that CDC ultimately approves and certifies respiratory protective devices. Perhaps the most important and clearest indicator to consider in an N95 respirator is the symbol or logo of NIOSH certification.

This PPE is usually worn by medical staff in a hospital setting; however, keep in mind that the use of masks, gowns, and gloves has increased in daily life in order to protect against various contagious diseases and illnesses.

There are many circumstances and situations under which PPE can be a clear biohazard. For instance, if used in a hospital or medical facility setting among patients, then any PPE, such as masks, must be safely disposed of, preferably in the correct bins.

One of the national distributors for PPE supplies found itself with counterfeit masks. In a market that has become rife with counterfeit or inferior products, how can you be certain that you’re purchasing a quality and reliable product that will keep your employees safe?

The Enterprise Logistics Manager was looking for a company that could securely destroy the counterfeit materials and damaged PPE.

It turns out that the FDA identified a Chinese company that claimed to manufacture N95 masks; however, the masks did not meet N95 standards. The destruction process not only had to be pre-approved by the FDA but also had to be witnessed by a government representative.

Shred Connect had to undergo inspection and certification for the destruction process approved by the FDA. Our client asked for heightened chain-of-custody controls as it was critical that the counterfeit PPE equipment never made it beyond our facility intact. The government representative arrived was able to watch and testify to the entire destruction process. A Certificate of Destruction was provided.

Medical Devices

Shred Connect has been destroying medical devices for the past 10 years. This includes medical devices that promote cardiac and respiratory care. Other projects have involved disposable infusion and surgical kits. The FDA regulates the medical devices, classifying each device into three classifications. Some medical devices require assembly where one unit can consist of a few parts. Prior to packaging, assembled units go through rigorous quality control channels. Medical devices failing quality control are reported to the FDA, requiring certified medical device destruction.

The regulations and standards for the medical industry are considerably different from most other industries in the US, often requiring quality control and approval from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

A medical device manufacturer called Shred Connect for a medical device destruction project. In this one particular case, a parts assembler failed to report that quality control failed to pass. Instead, the process was rushed with units assembled and sent for packaging. Due to the failed assembly process, the entire unit was classified as unsellable, and FDA guidelines mandated destruction of the entire unit.

Shred Connect followed a two-pass destruction protocol to make sure that the smaller part, found to be the cause of rejection, was destroyed with certainty. The FDA sent a representative to witness the destruction process. A Certificate of Destruction meeting FDA guidelines was provided to the medical device manufacturer.

Mobile Phone Accessories

Perhaps, the most important and valuable accessory for many smartphone users is the phone case, which protects it from the main risk of impact and physical damage when you kick, drop, or otherwise put your phone at risk. Phone cases have become an indispensable accessory in protecting cell phones from damage.

One company that imports fashionable cell phone accessories and covers discovered that the packaging protected most of its cargo from damage. Unfortunately, some of the shipment sustained damage when heavier cargo was stacked on top.

The Logistics Manager called and needed Shred Connect to destroy the entire lot as required by insurance. The merchandiser could not fulfill partial orders, and the entire load was insured. These factors led to the destruction of all units.

Shred Content works with many manufacturers of smartphone accessories: phone cases, screen protectors, and device holders. This merchandise sometimes requires destruction. For instance, defective phone cases that do not properly protect their encased hardware should be destroyed. We can take care of mobile phone damage.

Just trashing these damaged phone accessories and material threatens brand integrity. This is because intact items are usually scavenged from the dump and then resold. The same is true for damaged in-transit items.

Shred Content has the facility to destroy mobile phone and tablet accessories, along with hard drives, pen drives, USB sticks, CDs, and laptops. And that is not all; we also provide you with a Certificate of Destruction. This is important as it gives you proof that your accessories have been disposed of securely and safely.

Shred Connect destroyed mobile phone cases and provided video evidence of the destruction process. We can collect all your mobile phones from your work or business. On the other hand, you can deliver these phones to our secure premises. We will provide you with a certificate of destruction.

The Certificate of Destruction was provided to the insurance company. The customer chose Shred Connect because one price included the destruction, video, and Certificate of Destruction.

Home Lighting

The Product Manager called Shred Connect to ask if we could shred electrical plugs, light switches, and decorative wall plates. These products were damaged as a result of a warehouse fire.

Although the fire was extinguished quickly, the logistics company was not able to turn off the fire sprinklers for some time. Water penetrated the packaging, and there were varying degrees of damage to the electrical products, resulting in considerable product damage.

The company that hired Shred Connect wanted to protect its branding and reputation. All units were destroyed, with the customer witnessing the destruction process. Waste electrical components and electronic equipment are collected and then taken to a reprocessing plant, where these components are shredded into small pieces.

Shred Connect is a leader in certified product destruction. Our main objective and goal are to provide you with secure shredding and disposal services. All services we provide come with peace of mind that all branded material evident in medical devices, mobile phones, and electric accessories, are treated and disposed of responsibly, and backed up with documentation.

So, get in touch with Shred Connect now to discover how we can help and support your business or company with the disposal of medical, PPE, and other kinds of waste.
